SPIRITUAL Obstacles
Sometimes in life we are faced with obstacles that make us want to give up. Things can get pretty dark sometimes, but it is in those moments, that you really have to hold on to your faith.
It’s the equivalent of walking through a situation, where you’re not sure where you’re going or if you will survive it, but by God’s grace you can.
Though you may feel very discouraged, you can make it out of the difficult situation you are in. God is not about giving up and you shouldn’t be either. You must not lose your faith. Be encouraged and optimistic that things will improve for you. Don’t throw in the towel when obstacles appear.
Get up and peacefully fight for what is yours and where you want your life to be. Don’t let anyone take that from you. Out of dreams are born great ideas that go on to change the world.
SPIRITUAL When Giving Up Looks Like The Easy Way Out
Sometimes giving up looks like the way out of a stressful, frustrating situation. Sometimes it feels like it is easier to let go. But I want to encourage you not to give up. Push forward and hold on until you get that breakthrough you need. Yes, sometimes things can get pretty dark in life, but those who succeed, are the ones who don’t give up.
Pray and ask God for the strength to continue and not lose sight of your goals. Tell Him in prayer when you are overwhelmed and feel like you can’t go on. He will give you the discipline, dedication and drive to move forward and achieve your goals. It’s not too late.

The Ten Commandments
Charlton Heston
The movie “The Ten Commandments” is dynamic. It’s a true to the Bible, beautifully done film. They don’t make movies like this anymore. It was spectacular in every way.
It’s a story one never tires of watching. Not just for its historical quality, but the meaningfulness of the storyline.
Absent are Hollywood’s typical clichés and vile subtext that make many a film descend into darkness.
Charlton Heston, the film’s star, passed away this month. However, he will always be remembered for the great performance he turned in for this timeless film.
SPIRITUAL Values
What are values? They are the moral code one lives by. Values vary from person to person, but in society there are basic guidelines as to what is acceptable conduct and what is not. While you can’t live your life for other people, you need to live in a manner that your freedom doesn’t harm someone else. We all have rights and you don’t want the choices you make to infringe upon that of others.
Your values should be seen in your work and personal life. On the job, work with integrity and when you date or choose to marry, pick someone that reflects the things you believe in and the high standards you live by.
If you choose someone that is not instep with your faith, being mismated as the Bible calls it, it can create significant problems in your life, as you will not be on the same page in matters of life, family and spiritual well being.
Christian Heritage
As you go out to vote this year, here’s a interesting article excerpt about matters of the faith and America’s foundation:
“The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were…the general principles of Christianity. – John Adams
Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine. – James Wilson, signer of the Constitution, U.S. Supreme Court Judge
The practice of morality being necessary for the well-being of society…We all agree in the obligation of the moral precepts of Jesus and nowhere will they be found delivered in greater purity than in His discourses. – Thomas Jefferson
“It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religion but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” – Patrick Henry
The moral principles and precepts contained in the Scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws…All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible. – Noah Webser
This is but a handful of the evidences that the Founders of the United States were almost entirely Christians, and serious Christians at that. Further, that they saw the precepts of Christianity as essential to freedom and good government.
So it is particularly disturbing when we see people who not only don’t like Christianity (everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it runs contrary to the evidence that Christian precepts have blessed the U.S.), but attempt to erase this key aspect of our national heritage.”

Here’s an interesting article on France’s Christian Heritage:
“French president acknowledges Europe’s Christian heritage”
Paris, Jan. 31, 2008 (CWNews.com) – French President Nicolas Sarkozy has spoke out in support of recognizing “the Christian roots of Europe.”
At a meeting of his political party, the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire, Sarkozy said that leaders of the European Union were wrong to exclude an explicit reference to Christianity from the language of the proposed EU constitutional treaty. (The French voters rejected that treaty in a 2005 referendum.)
“We erred when we turned our back on the past, and in a certain sense turned our back on our roots, which are obvious,” Sarkozy said. Echoing the argument that has been advanced by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI, the French leader said that without a basis in Christian culture, the European Union will have no firm foundation.
“If we reject our past, we are not ready for our future,” Sarkozy said.
The Nativity Story

The Nativity Story presented a different take on the relationship between Mary the mother of Jesus and Joseph, her husband. It showed their struggles in an intolerant and sometimes sacrilegious society that didn’t realize the role they would play in world history.
While some of the movie was good, parts of it could have been done differently, as it added an almost strange angle to the characters.
For instance, the scene that is a dream sequence showing Joseph joining a mob that wanted to stone Mary. I didn’t like that part of the movie. Why must Hollywood take stories on such twists and turns.
Some of the scenes really didn’t bring home their true story like it could have, but it was still an entertaining film with good points.
SPIRITUAL Taking A Stand
There are times in life when bad things will happen and like the song says all you can do is “Stand” and wait for God to help you.
We live in a very troubled world, where people do things they ought not to. Hatred, envy and greed breed terrible conduct that should not be a fact of life for anyone. While there are good people in this world, there are evil ones as well that harm mankind.
People sometimes like to give blanket answers to others’ problems. For example, generically telling people to take responsibility for their life, because they are at whatever place they are because of choices they made. But that’s not always so.
While I agree that people must take responsibility for their lives, some end up in undesirable places and situations that were forced upon them by others.
To the woman that’s been raped or the young girl that’s been molested or the child that’s been abused or the child that was born with a disease – you can’t give them a blanket, generic answer like take responsibility for your life, it’s your decisions that got you where you are today.
Don’t assume too much and fail to listen. Everything that happens in life is not of God. The Bible illustrates that.
There are people going around carelessly making mean, wanton choices that affect others’ lives, then claiming it all happened for a reason. God doesn’t work that way.
It’s not everything in life that you want you should have. That woman who told you no and you forced yourself on her anyway. That was not God’s plan and you’ve harmed another living soul.
That family you broke up because you fell in love with someone that was not free. Those choices have consequences. No one has the right to freely go around inflicting harm upon others, as it is the same suffering God will bring back upon you.
You need to ask God for forgiveness, before it’s too late.
To the victims of crime or wrongdoing, it’s not your fault. Someone else made decisions they should not have that has affected your life.
Getting back on your feet may not seem easy or even worth trying, but giving up on yourself and or suicide is not the answer.
I encourage you to keep trying to heal. Even though it may take a lot out of you, try to get back up again and put your life back together.

Recommendation: I highly recommend this film.
The Perfect Stranger is a great film. I love this movie. It is one of the most enjoyable films I’ve seen in a while.
It is centered on a woman, Nikki, who is a lawyer (that Pharisee – just kidding), having a conversation with Jesus, dressed in a suit, over dinner. He answers many questions she always wanted to know. It was a very touching film.
He discusses many things that traumatized her in life, especially during her teen years. He also told her of the secret things she had been doing that were wrong and that He wanted her to get out of them before it got her into trouble.
I highly recommend this film.
Side bar: Jesus had three full courses during dinner, even offered her some of His food, which I thought was sweet and hilarious at the same time, as Jesus was eating tortellini.
