Why Has Rap Music Become So Violent & Explicit

Then Now
lyric: well, my name is known all over the world. by all the foxy ladies and the pretty girls lyric: I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but a bit*h ain’t one.

Why has rap music become so vulgar, violent and explicit? Why is everything so negative. It certainly hasn’t added to its entertainment value. In my humble opinion, the quality of the music has massively fallen off. Not to mention, more than ever, rappers are on the court dockets for various crimes.

Whodini performers of “One Love”

Why the negative change. It’s not exactly helping the kids or the music. While one wants to be accurate in their music, why get so graphic.

Whodini (check out the 80’s gear…um, I just realized Kanye is still wearing that stuff LOL)

Rappers use to talk about the bad things in the ghetto without resorting to such violent imagery and sexually explicit content. I’m not saying every old school record was positive, but they weren’t overwhelmingly negative as the majority are today.

Slick Rick performer of “Teenage Love”

There use to be more upbeat rap music like “One Love” by Whodini” and “Teenage Love” by Slick Rick. There were rappers like Kool Moe Dee that sought to bring intelligence to their raps and issued songs like “I Go To Work.”

When the Sugarhill Gang debuted, it wasn’t with the type of lowest common denominator material audiences are hearing and seeing today.

Jeweler To The Stars Sentenced To 2 ½ Years

Bling Bling In Sing Sing

Jacob the Jeweler, real name Jacob Arabov, a favorite of hip hop stars, was sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison for lying to the Feds about his involvement in a drug ring.

I’ve written about this before. Never lie to the Feds. You will draw a jail sentence worse than the one for the crime you are accused of, when they figure out what you’ve done. For further reference see Martha Stewart and Lil Kim.

Jacob has been accused of helping the Black Mafia crime syndicate launder drug money. Rapper Young Jeezy’s name has been called in that case as well, as having been given kilos of cocaine to sell. You know dude had a Maalox moment when that little tidbit went public.

Jacob and P-Diddy

I don’t know why the entertainment industry is always getting mixed up in illegal deals (*looking at Jay-Z*). Some are never satisfied with their greed for money, while others try to live up to a gangster image. Either way, it is all very unwise and extremely risky.

Jacob and Pharrell Williams

After Jacob’s sentence, under current U.S. guidelines, he faces deportation to his native Russia, as an immigrant who was convicted of a felony. Well, unless he can pull a Slick Rick and get a pardon from the governor.

Cohn also ordered the Russian immigrant to pay a $50,000 fine and to make a $2-million forfeiture payment to the government…

Arabov was arrested in 2006 at his Manhattan jewelry shop. Authorities accused him and others of conspiring to launder about $270 million in drug profits…

Authorities accused Arabov and others of conspiring to launder drug profits for the “Black Mafia Family,” a ring that operated out of the Detroit area beginning in the early 1990s.
