Shaunie Asks Shaq For Full Financial Disclosure
November 10. 2007
Shaquille O’Neal’s wife Shaunie, via her attorney, has filed documents in Miami state court regarding their divorce petition, requesting a full disclosure of all her husband’s assets. The document was entered into court record this month and requests the full financial map of Shaq’s holdings. Numerous web sites have picked this tidbit up and are interpreting it as a step toward gaining Shaquille’s finances.
Considering Shaquille has dotingly spoken well of his wife to the public for many years, and afforded her a lavish lifestyle that is far beyond what she had prior to marrying him, I hope she and her lawyer will be fair-minded in their financial requests.
This is a man that has given to charity on many occasions, helped the less fortunate and launched an affordable line of shoes for teens. He does not deserve to be taken to the cleaners. Under the circumstances it would look bad.

Shaq Sells Star Island Home
November 9. 2007
Shaq has sold his Star Island home he bought for $18.8 million in 2004 for $25-27 million dollars. You know somewhere Rony Seiklay is crying as he sold it for $5 million in the early 90’s right before the Miami real estate boom (that’s now gone bust…all over the country).
Rony: I cannot believe Kazaam sold my house for that much money!
Shaq reportedly sold his home to longtime Miami part time resident, baseball player, Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod, as he is called, has purchased an 8 bedroom prime property on the most sought after island in Miami.

Marriages, Affairs And Legal Entanglements
November 6. 2007
When celebrity marriages go wrong it can get ugly – at least from a public perspective on the publicity side. A lot of terrible un-attributed quotes are presented as fact, when the public often truly does not know what is going on behind the scenes.
Infidelity often steps into the picture, as there is often a lot of temptation thrown famous people’s way that they sometimes do not say no to.
Famous women are usually more faithful than famous men. However, a few women have been caught in compromising situations that led to the demise of their marriages.
Jennifer Aniston photo shoot
Tabloids love this. It creates a feeding frenzy that is often humiliating for the famous parties involved and their families as well.
Children are sometimes mocked at school over their parents’ sexual indiscretions. That can be very traumatic for a child and often there isn’t much that can be done to screen them from such situations.
One of the most high profile splits in recent celebrity history was actress Jennifer Aniston and actor Brad Pitt. News of it was everywhere, which could not have been great for the parties involved.
Pitt went to work on a film titled Mr. and Mrs. Smith, co-starring actress Angelina Jolie. Shortly after rumors began seeping out from the set of an affair. And of course, the press went into overdrive compounding Aniston’s grief. Jolie denied the allegations of infidelity with Pitt.
Hey, which woman really wants to go through something like that, but Pitt clearly was at fault. Can’t blame the woman cause you can’t keep it zipped. Same goes for women who cheat. You can’t blame the man in a case like that.
The issue of money always comes into play in these divorces. It’s the loss of one income in a household. Even if you pay alimony and child support, the household has still lost a great deal of its wealth.
Shaquille O’Neal and Shaunie
In the case of newly separated basketball star Shaquille O’Neal and his estranged wife Shaunie, money is going to be an issue because of his tax bracket.
Shaq’s Star Island House
Shaq’s house, the former home of Heat basketball player, Rony Seikaly, sold for $5 million in the 1990’s and due to Miami’s rise in popularity years after, is now worth $30 million.
Miami Beach’s Star Island
O’Neal’s net worth is estimated to be $300 million. That can buy a lot of copies of Kazaam (just playing.). With 5 children between them there is much to do in the way of financial planning.
When Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt split, they were each thought to have a net worth of $100 million dollars. You know, Friends didn’t pay Aniston much, especially towards the end – something like $1 million per episode – wow she was broke (that was a joke).
They’d bought a home for $12.5 million dollars, then once the separation hit, put it on the market and sold it for 22.5 million. They also shared a production company called Plan B Entertainment that is responsible for several productions. Aniston transferred all interest in the company to him as apart of the divorce.
Pitt Traded Beverly Hills For Malibu – How Long Before He Changes His Mind Again
So, they had to separate the money and extricate each individual’s assets from the other to make a so-called clean break. Then he entered into a relationship with Angelina Jolie and her cute United Colors of Benetton family (ok, bad joke).
Beverly Hills born Jolie is also thought to be worth $100 million dollars (is that like the standard number for net worth or something? Is no one worth $101 million or $125 million dollars).
Pitt and Jolie’s relationship may terminate in the not too distant future. You never know, as dude has a wandering eye and keeps picking younger chicks every few years. And with baby Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, hanging around…you never know.
Angelina (left) Angelina 2.0, Megan Fox (right)
As a general rule, I wouldn’t do that. I wouldn’t pick someone that looks that much younger than me as it would make me look that much older. I’m just saying. It’s free advice. Do with it what you will. All jokes aside, marriage requires commitment and when one or both parties let the other down it can get pretty sad.
Some divorces, painful as they may be, aren’t plagued by dramatic public scenes…:
…and some are:
Whitney Houston at the pinnacle of her career was said to have a net worth of $240 million and Bobby Brown at the height of his fame, $30 million.
Bobby Brown And Whitney Houston Wedding In 1992
They wed in a big ceremony in 1992 attended by 800 guests. It made headlines, as the two seemed an unlikely pairing. For a time things seemed well.
They settled in Houston’s home state of New Jersey in a town called Mendham, where she’d purchased an $11,000,000 home and later, an adjacent parcel.
She also bought homes in Miami, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Brown additionally purchased and sold a home in Atlanta as well. They lived a lavish lifestyle off their earnings.
Houston and daughter Bobby Kristina
After 14 years of marriage, they acrimoniously broke up, with news of financial problems hitting the press. The divorce went through, apparently uncontested, as Brown did not make an appearance in the case. Brown has since contested the divorce and requested alimony.
Divorce isn’t a walk in the park. It’s leaving someone you pledged your life to because they cheated or you cheated. This infidelity can be avoided, which is a good idea for the sake of all involved.

Reported Reconciliation Request
October 9. 2007
An article that ran in the Miami Herald titled, “Shaunie Gets Lawyer Hopes To Reconcile” mentioned that the estranged wife of basketball star Shaquille O’Neal, 35, is contesting the divorce he filed recently.
His wife Shaunie, 32, has been granted a 3 month continuance by the court. The paper hints that she is hoping to reconcile with the Miami Heat player, “For the preservation of the marriage and family relationships.”
The Chicago Sun Times is reporting she cheated on Shaq with one of his personal trainers, who the paper described as muscular. Where is this dude by the way?
It has also been alleged that she transferred millions of dollars from his accounts without permission, into her own inland and off shore holdings. It is also being said in Miami that she bought the trainer an expensive condo in Miami using Shaq’s funds.
While Shaq has vowed not to talk about this incident, which is his prerogative under the circumstances, someone with authority in this situation should say something to set the record straight regarding much of what is being said in the press and online, as a lot of it is unsavory and not beneficial to them or their kids.

When Money Is A Factor In Destroying Marriages
October 5. 2007
Shaq Files For Divorce From Shaunie
Basketball player Shaq O’Neal recently filed for divorce from his wife of five years Shaunie Nelson. Divorce is sad. People who go through it are often left scarred. I’m sorry things turned out badly for the two, as they seemed happy.
There are items circulating claiming Shaunie had an affair with her trainer, a 27 year old Cuban man. Dude, you don’t want Shaq after you. You need to go into hiding in Hialeah (Miami joke). Somewhere near the flea market where Shaq would never think to look (I go there sometimes).
Did a good-looking, chiseled Cuban trainer say to Shaunie, “Mami, you look muy bonita today,” and render the marriage over? Time will tell. One thing’s for certain, money issues have arisen and Shaq’s asking for a full accounting of his funds.
Shaq v. Shaunie
Side bar: It doesn’t matter which country you live in foreign accents make native women act stupid. If you’re in Britain and a dude from Spain lays the accent on thick…If you’re in America and a French dude starts throwing one too many Mon Cheries at you…
But back to Shaq. Money issues have arisen in the divorce regarding Shaunie allegedly hiding Shaq’s money in CDs, bearer bonds and accounts.
Money often causes problems in marriages – when you have it and when you don’t.
Either way, it’s got to be sad for their kids not having mommy and daddy in the same house anymore. They seem like a nice family and I wish them well.
Juanita Bynum v. Thomas Weeks
Popular pastor Juanita Bynum recently filed for divorce from her husband, bishop Thomas Weeks, who assaulted her in an Atlanta parking lot last month. Charges have since been filed against him. What has happened to this marriage is sad, as everyone was happy for them when they got married.
Many were subsequently sad to learn of the pending divorce that revealed a trail of abuse. Bynum said recently that previously he would push and shove her, but it never turned into the violence that manifested itself, culminating into charges against Weeks.
She said she didn’t want to tell people she was having marriage problems. Who would. It doesn’t seem like a pleasant thing to go through. I hope some good comes out of this terrible situation.
Weeks has an anger problem. It was alleged by two other members of his congregation that he attacked another woman that demanded her money via her paycheck.
Speaking of money, this issue seems to be at the heart of quite a few problems in Bishop Weeks’ life. Records made public reveal he owes a number of companies significant sums of money totaling over $100,000.
For example he was living in a leased $2.5 million dollar home in Duluth, Georgia, where he fell behind on the payments. He had an outstanding bill at Tiffany’s for thousands of dollars.
Respectfully, these are debts a bishop should not have. That money could have been put to better use in the church via outreach programs, not paying such a large lease. Georgia is a very nice place. There are many nice homes there for $150,000 to $250,000.
As a bishop on a budget, one should dedicate one’s self to living a life of thrift. While many preachers, who I have the utmost respect for, write books and author DVDs that bring in extra income, some do not and must make due with much less.
If you have that money coming in from the books and DVDs you author, that’s your income. However, if the funds are not there, it will create unnecessary problems in your life trying to live according to a certain financial standard.
Jesus never wore expensive suits. He never lived in a mansion. He never drove an expensive car – and still His message went out across the world and has been heard by billions, enduring even thousands of years later.
It doesn’t matter if a preacher is rich or poor, as that does not define success in the world of faith. The more important thing is how good is your message, does it comfort the broken hearted, does it lead people to God, does it give them a better understanding of faith, does it inspire them.
The Bible is not about getting rich – never was. Some people will be rich in this life, some will not. However, that is not what God looks at. He looks at your heart, deeds and your faith in Him.
There are people in this world who are hurting, broken, devastated, struggling with addiction, some even ill, some their children are suffering. Their souls need uplifting. They need to hear the true words of comfort from the Bible, because there are some things money can’t buy – healing and love. These are the things that should be our focus.
